Description

Gray painted Gustavian sofa from Sweden, circa 1790-1809. Sofa made from hand-carved pine in a clean-line neoclassical style. The painted finish scraped back to reveal layers of early gray-green and light gray-blue paint.

Sofa features finely carved architectural pediment back and high arms. Turned finials decorate back posts of sofa. Front skirt/frieze adorned in carved relief reed and ribbon motif punctuated by two fluted panels. Upholstered in natural color linen. Bolster cushions made from antique hand-woven linen.
