Primitive English oak bench dating to the early 19th century (circa 1800-1820). Thick, very heavy plank seat bench supported by simple pegged hand-carved legs. Features a gorgeous dark brown patina. Bench probably functioned as a country kitchen bench or rustic outdoors work bench (its legs are removable for storage). Seating of this type is sometimes referred to as a pig benches. Seat measures 47 inches long by 8.5 inches deep.
