Description
17th century chestnut console table hand-carved, turned and joinedin Spain, circa 1750-1779. Nice thick, over-hanging single-plank top, raised above a frieze of three deep drawers with chiseled decoration. Drawer interiors seem either original, or very early. Their dado joints (not dovetailed), strengthened by early iron nails, were commonly used prior to the late-17th century. Turned legs connected by dual turned front and back stretchers. Almost all-original. Its smooth softened edges speak to centuries of use and natural wear. Locks are non-functional, but early, and drawer pulls have age but are not original.
